Building for the Royal Exchange began in 1566 and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571, who awarded it a royal title and a license to sell alcohol. In 1660 it was established as a ‘house retail business’, effectively becoming Britain’s first shopping mall. Over the years it has been damaged in riots, the great fire of London, been re-built and re-developed.

However, fast forward 452 years to a building that now offers so much more than its early beginnings in the late 16th Century.  Since 2001 it has undergone some extensive remodelling by Aukett Swanke Architects, who have metamorphosed this luxurious and regal shopping and dining destination.

As a luxury destination in the heart of London, it attracts thousands of customers from all over the world. Therefore the washrooms needed to cater for the following; a stylish yet compliant design so that all users of all abilities/disabilities could be catered for within the perimeters of the building. Washroom styles that complemented the new outlay as well as honouring the more historical elements of the building. And economical, sustainable, easy-to-conserve products in the washrooms for the facilities teams on the ground to ensure the washrooms look to a high standard all day long. With this in mind we introduced them to range of stylish, economic and high quality products to install in their washrooms.

We created a bespoke version of our BC363-2 RAL Black powder coated soap bottle holder for luxurious  Soap. Lockable to use soap bottles so that they could refill how and when they wanted with no risk of the soap bottles being taken from the washroom. Enabling them to show luxury branded soap creating a more special, luxurious user experience for the washroom user.

Our newest tap which boasts ‘SMART’ Technology (DS102 Dolphin Wall Plate Mounted InForm Tap 90° Spout) featured in this project. The Tap uses a self-monitoring analysis and recording technology (SMART) which allows the facilities manager to connect point to point via the Dolphin InForm App when used with the optional Bluetooth Adaptor.

Other items specified was our BC725 Robe Hook and BC707-3SS three toilet roll holder, an excellent addition for this high volume area as it holds three toilet rolls meaning the replenishing of stock is a little easier.

All our stainless steel products were supplied in a matte finish, so that all the metal colours matched throughout all washrooms.
